I have been a busy Mommy lately, getting everything ready for Halloween, Thanksgiving and the Holidays. But a lot of my time was spent scratching my head over the choices for gifts available this year. I have a lot of people to buy for, so I like to work through my gift list quite methodically. Getting organized early is key to me being ready for everything on time. So this year, I’ve done a bit of research on the best gifts for every occasion.
I love Halloween. Everybody in the family gets dressed up and we enjoy all the spookiness of the evening. I can’t make every costume, so I let Monkey Man pick his from a few choice selections in the stores. They can also have a couple of accessories to add to the spooky effect. Since he is not able to eat most of the candies with food coloring, I do not buy much. I tend to stick to small party favors for Halloween gifts.
I like to bake themed cookies that are healthy. Lots of the snacks we have are fruit or cereal based to keep them as healthy as possible. I don’t want to spoil the fun, but I don’t want to suffer the kids’ sugar highs either! There are lots of great Halloween themed gifts out there to help decorate a party or give to friends.
As we move towards the end of the year, I’m still looking for gifts for the odd family birthday. Adults can be tricky to buy for. I don’t want to go for the usual perfumes or Experience days that I have relied on so much recently. Instead, I want to buy something that can be useful and interesting. I’ve seen a beautiful tea set online. You get a little glass pot, some tea varieties and a cute little tray for the set to sit in.
There are also online stores that specialize in personalizing the gifts you buy. Everything from doormats to pillowcases can be made bespoke with unique text, names images of your choice. I love this idea for adult gifts. You can add humor, or make it quite sentimental. If someone has just lost their pet, you can create a cushion cover in their honor. Gifts like that can be so endearing and very much treasured.
Florists seem to be working hard at the moment to increase custom. More and more are offering special packaging and gift sets around their bouquets. I think this can be much nicer for the recipient because there is less messing about when they arrive. Indoor plants are being sent in similar ways, making them very attractive in the office or home.
Children can be quite a challenge to buy for too. I never seem to know what to get for pre-teen girls. Some are into fashion while others are into art. It can be difficult to get right. I’ve found a really helpful website with gift ideas for ten to eleven year old girls this Christmas that has been useful. There is something for everyone, no matter what her tastes are.
Christmas is meant to be fun, but shopping for Christmas presents can be hard work! Children often let you know what they would like in their letters to Santa. But some kids have really wild imaginations! Horses, hot air balloon rides, and piloting a space rocket are things that are beyond my credit card right now. Instead, I’m looking to the movies for inspiration.
Movie merchandise helps make mundane items like pencil cases and stuffed animals into the most popular gifts of the year. Films that are hitting the big screens at the moment can be full of fun characters that my son will just love. It means you can get several cheaper gifts as part of a set. You can even wrap the items separately to make up lots of presents under the tree. They make great little stocking fillers too.
Birthdays are really nice to buy gifts for. I think I spend a lot more time choosing and wrapping gifts for birthdays than for Christmas. I love selecting things like bath fizzers and body creams for my female friends. For the guys in my family, I like to find cute accessories for their sports and hobbies. My son usually tell me what they want! But I like to buy him a surprise present each year too. This is usually an ‘active’ toy like a scooter or a tennis set.
I think it is easier to know what you want to buy before you start gift shopping. Of course, you have to do a lot of browsing to find those perfect gifts! Take your time, and enjoy the process. You’re about to make someone very happy.
