A few weeks ago our puppy Frankie passed away. Our house feels so empty without him running around. I am still grieving the loss. Read about how we are helping Monkey Man through it here.
Well the Wednesday before Halloween we got a new puppy. I firmly believe it is not fair for there to only be one dog in the home. They need someone to interact with and should never be alone. So we picked up the newest member of our family… Meet Lucy!
Lucy is a super tiny black pug. She is a little sweet heart and has been such a joy to get to know. She is also a huge adjustment for us. She has been the smallest puppy we ever had. So Lucy came to us from a breeder who was giving her adult dog food watered down. I wanted to switch Lucy to puppy food that was already wet. I slowly switched her over, but the day that I first switched her was a disaster and a hilarious accident all in one.
So here is why you do not switch a puppy’s food and take them out of the house.
I pick up my little sister from high school a few days a week and with Lucy being too tiny to stay home alone I brought her with. I made sure she went to the bathroom before we left and noticed her stool was a little loose which can happen the first few days you switch their food.
So we got in the car and drove out to the school. Once my sister got in the car she wanted to hold the new puppy. I mean who wouldn’t right? So I began to drive home and the puppy starts crying.
My sister “What is your problem? Calm down its ok.”
So I get on the freeway and all of a sudden she starts shrieking! I look over and there is shit running down her leg.
Poor little Lucy had an upset stomach and pooped on my sister. No regular poop either. Like chocolate pudding of death running down my sisters leg in the car.
She begins screaming at me to pull over and preceded to drop the dog, who then slides down her leg into the poop. So now my sister is covered in poop. Lucy is covered in poop. The car smells like something died and sat in the sun for 2 weeks and I cannot stop laughing enough to help. I get to the side of the road and everyone gets cleaned up but my sister refuses to hold Lucy. Monkey Man thankfully takes her wrapped in her blanket and off we go to my parents’ house. We call my mother at work from the car.
“So, we are driving home and you will never guess what Lucy just did to Carli.”
“SHE POOPED ON ME!”
My mom is laughing in the back ground
“Is Lucy ok?”
“Really? The dog poops on me and you ask if SHE is ok?”
More laughing from both me and my mom.
So moral of the story, do not change your dog’s food and then take them out of the house.
You could end up in a shitty mess.
Thankfully no one was hurt, and it was just hilarious but still things could have been much worse. The only clothes that were ruined were my sisters sock, and my car did not need to be cleaned we just poured half a can of air freshener into it.
What lessons did you learn the hard way?
