Today’s posts are all about bucket lists!
So in typical Goofball mommy style here are 10 things you must add to your Christmas bucket lists.
1. Make Gingerbread Houses
We have been doing some form of this since monkey man was 2. Last year we couldn’t find any kits and ended up just making gingerbread men. It is one of the best memories we have every year. I mean what kid doesn’t love playing with cookies and candy?
2. Go see Christmas Lights.
We have a street that goes all out on the Christmas lights around here and it seriously takes an hour to go all the way through. I love that most of the houses sell hot chocolate, homemade cookies, popcorn, or some other goodies. We pack the kids up and walk through the neighborhood listening to Christmas music and drinking hot coco (or sometimes wine in coffee cups). The kids love the lights and it is a great way to get them in the Christmas spirit. We also go do the boat parade down at the beach were all of the boats are decorated with lights and so are all the houses along the harbor. It is nice to ride on a boat in the parade and the kids get a kick out of being on the water.
3. Christmas movie day
Stay in PJ’s all day watching Christmas movies and drinking hot chocolate. We add decorating the tree to this day as well. For movie ideas come back on December 4th.
4. Christmas PJ’s
Every year monkey man gets to open a present on Christmas Eve that has new Christmas jammies to wear in it. He also gets hot chocolate mix (can you tell we love our hot coco?), popcorn, a new movie, and a blanket in the box.
5. Christmas Books
We have a group of Christmas books that I wrap up and he gets to unwrap one a day. We read the book then I have a craft to go along with it.
6. Make cookies for Santa
Together we bake homemade sugar cookies and decorate them for Santa to leave out on Christmas Eve. Come back on December 5th for our amazing cookie recipe.
7. Build a snow man
Here in southern California we have to get creative with this. There is usually no snow. One year we had to make a snowman out of cotton balls. This year we will be in Wisconsin for Christmas and will be able to build snowmen there.
8. Toys for Tots
Every year I take monkey man out shopping for toys for tots. It is nice for him to be able to pick out a gift for a child in need and teaches him that Christmas is for giving.
9. Handmade Christmas ornaments
Every year we make an ornament to put on the tree. Last year we made these amazing smelling cinnamon ornaments for the tree. This year we will make a handprint Santa. Come back on December 3rd for some Christmas craft ideas.
10. See a Christmas play
Every year we look for a Christmas play to go see. Last year we saw scrooge and it was such a hit with monkey man.
Bonus: This year I am adding the polar express train to our list. If you haven’t heard about this I highly recommend looking into it and seeing if there is one in your area.
